China, the most populous country in the world, has border with India, North Korea, Mongolia, Russia, Bhutan and Kazakhstan. The capital is Beijing.
The population of China is composed of over 50 ethnic minorities. The vast majority of the population belong to the Han ethnic group, residing in the eastern region of China. One of the cradles of Chinese civilization, the site called Banpo, was located along a tributary of the Huang He not too far from the city of Xi'an in Shaanxi province. About one-third of the total area of China consists of mountains.
China has some of the most abundant plant life in the world and it is one of the countries with the greatest diversity of wildlife.
